Children’s Advocacy Center Model
Learn how the Child Advocacy Center model brings together agencies and services to better support children and families affected by abuse.
Through a partnership with Levine Children’s Hospital Pediatric Resource Center, Children’s Advocacy Center of Charlotte provides medical evaluations conducted by providers who specialize in child maltreatment. These exams are a vital step in ensuring a child’s health and providing families with peace of mind.
A medical evaluation at CAC of Charlotte is similar to a standard “well-child” check-up. Our providers take as much time as necessary to put the child at ease, explaining each step of the process to ensure they feel safe and informed.
The medical exam takes place at Children’s Advocacy Center of Charlotte in a child friendly examination room receiving a thorough head to toe exam. Beyond the physical component of the exam, our medical providers help assure parents that their child is healthy and that if abuse has occurred, it will not be visible to others. Our providers offer extensive, one-on-one consultation not received during a regular doctor’s visit and take as much time as necessary to help the children by explaining each step of the check-up and finding ways to put the child at ease. Although there are very rarely physical signs of sexual abuse, many families find reassurance knowing that no permanent physical damage has been done.
Walking through our doors can feel overwhelming. Here, children find a space where they are believed, supported, and never alone.
Watch how Children’s Advocacy Center of Charlotte helps children move from fear and secrecy toward safety, strength, and hope.
